Speed Dating
New Diploma Hair and Beauty students had the opportunity to learn more about the hair and beauty industry.
On Tuesday 20th October 2009 32 students from Bognor Regis Community College, Manhood Community College, St Philip Howard School, and Westergate Community School attending a careers speed dating event at Chichester College. They were extremely lucky to have the expertise from 7 local businesses, Body & Sole, Kerri Harrison Make-Up Specialist, Posh Paws Nail Studio, Q Hair & Beauty, Toucan Salon, The Sanctum, and Wedding hair at home.
Small teams were asked to ask lots of questions to the business volunteers, which they could only reply with a yes or no, to work out which area of hair and beauty they worked in. After 7 minutes the business volunteers rotated round the groups.
Each business volunteers then gave the students a 3 minute presentation, demonstrating different career pathways and the variety of jobs within the industry. Followed by questions, which there were masses of.
The businesses also helped students start to think about the skills and attributes they already had ready for the world of work and where their may be gaps to work on in preparation.
Students filled in evaluation sheets and when asked what they had learnt from the event they said: “How many jobs there are within hair and beauty”; “That loads of business people are willing to help young people”; Confidence gets you further in life”. They also said how much they enjoyed the event, “Today was really inspiring, I loved it! Brilliant.”
